Peace Day to commemorate Mahatma Gandhi
GDSPS celebrated Gandhi Jayanti as Peace One Day Programme, as part of Tony Blair’s Face to Faith Programme on 1st October, 2014to sensitize students about the importance of peace in one’s life and the world around them. The day was celebrated to make the students conscious of values like compassion, kindness, and service to themselves, others, and the environment.

The programme commenced with an invocation to the Almighty to pray for global peace. Talks on the principles of Mahatma Gandhi and his followers like Martin Luther King and Anna Hazarewere presented by the students. The school choir spread the message of Peace and Harmony through their rendition of some beautiful songs. Students were administered the Peace Pledge to follow the path of righteousness, honesty and non-violence in life. To mark the occasion, the school Principal, Ms. Vijay Laxmi Singh released white balloons in the air, with peace messages and slogans on them. All plethora of activities were conducted to celebrate Peace One Day. Each class made a Peace Passbook and signed peace pledge and wrote peace slogans in it. All students of the school wore Peace badges on the day.Articles Writing Competition on the topic ‘Relevance of Gandhi and his Principles of Ahimsa and Truth today’ was held for senior school students. Students of the Middle School made beautiful posters on Peace. A Peace Tree adorned with peace messages by the students symbolized the awareness amongst the students who composed poems and slogans on Peace and understood, “If we love and forgive those who wrong us and not fight back, this will promote peace.”

The students were made aware of the meaning of heritage and its various types. They were asked some general questions on what they know about the heritage of India. The students were also asked to share their the purpose and the objective of joining the Heritage Club. They were then asked to make an Ad on how they can conserve the Natural Heritage. OUTCOMES The students showed enthusiasm in learning more about India’s rich heritage. They showed their creativity by preparing the Ad work.

Cherishing India’s freedom

Cherishing India’s freedom August 15, 1947  is the day engraved in gold in the history of India. It is the day when India attained its freedom from the clutches of a long slavery of over 200 years of the British Rule. It was a long and hard struggle in which many freedom fighters and great men laid their lives for our beloved motherland. To celebrate the 71st Independence Day and 75years of Quit India, the students of  Gyan Devi Salwan Public School celebrated the month of August as the Social Science Month. A plethora of activities were planned to celebrate our Independence, Our Heritage, Our beautiful Culture. Three Intra Class Activities were conducted from Classes VI-XI. Regarding students as active seekers of knowledge by throwing light on the multiplicity of history and cultural experiences that exists in India and in an attempt to wet student’s appetite for historical inquiry, the Dharohar club conducted activities like creating Dharohar membership cards, Dharohar song and pottery workshop in the month of April – May.
