Heritage Club Dharohar

Celebrating Heritage Day Heritage of our city needs all the caring and love of the next generation. Thus on the occasion of world heritage day on 18th  April the Dharohar club students went to Humayun’s tomb where they participated in number of fun filled activities like sandstone painting, sanjhi paper cutting, architectural paper model making (3D),creative writing along with heritage walk of the monument. The students wholeheartedly participated in these activities & gave their valuable time in the conservation of our rich heritage.

Date: 15 th October2015 Venue: School  Amphitheater Topic: Redefining the basis for reservation to ensure balance, equity and inclusiveness in areas of health, education and employment opportunities The Mock Parliament was conducted by Class X Students on 15 th   October 2015 at school  amphitheater  to commemorate 125 th birth anniversary of the Father of the Constitution Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar. About 20 students participated in the programme. This year the main agenda of the Mock Parliament was the discussion on to redefine the basis for reservation to ensure balance, equity and inclusiveness in areas of health, education and employment opportunities. Students came immaculately dressed as parliamentarians exhibiting knowledge about the benefits and concerns about reservations. They debated in detail about the pros and cons of reservations. DATE: 16/05/2015 VENUE: III A TOPIC:VISION AND MISSION OF HERITAGE CLUB OBJECTIVES: To make students aware about heritage and the need for its conservation. To provide students an insight into the heritage club activities. ACTIVITY DESCRIPTION: The heritage club activity was conducted on 16 th May, 2015. The students were made aware of the meaning of heritage and its types. They were asked some general questions in order to know, what they know about the heritage of India. They were then asked to make heritage cards which would have the clubs vision and mission. OUTCOMES: The students showed enthusiasm in learning more about India’s rich heritage. They showed their creativity by preparing heritage cards.

DATE: 4/07/2015 VENUE: III A and B OBJECTIVES: To take students from known to unknown related to the monuments of India. To provide them with information related to interesting features of few of the famous monuments of India. ACTIVITY DESCRIPTION A quiz based on the built monuments of India was taken up where in the students were provided with the clues and they were asked to guess the monument. Four of the famous monuments of Delhi were taken up and the history behind each monument was told to the children. They were then asked to create their own clues and ask questions from each other. OUTCOMES: The students gathered more information about the monuments of their interest They learnt the importance of each of the monument thus learning the importance of their rich heritage.

DATE: 22/05/2015 VENUE: VIII-A TOPIC:VISION AND MISSION OF HERITAGE CLUB OBJECTIVES : To make students aware about heritage and the need for its conservation. To provide students an insight into the heritage club activities. ACTIVITY DESCRIPTION The heritage club activity was conducted on 22 nd May, 2015. The students were made aware of the meaning of heritage and its various types. They were asked some general questions on what they know about the heritage of India. The students were also asked to share their the purpose and the objective of joining the Heritage Club. They were then asked to make an Ad on how they can conserve the Natural Heritage. OUTCOMES The students showed enthusiasm in learning more about India’s rich heritage. They showed their creativity by preparing the Ad work.

As part of monthly activities Inter-House Indian History/heritage and Sports Quiz was conducted on 2nd February, 2015 for classes IX and X. The team from each house had two participants, one student each from class IX and X. The teams were well prepared with their history, art and sport. As part of the ISA Activity students of classes IX-X presented a small skit on the theme “conservation of rivers “.The students highlighted the impact of the scarcity of water on the very existence of life. They related the water issue with the politics and economy in the world. The students were also made to realize how important it was to save water, their natural heritage as the wars in the future might be fought for this resource. It was a heart touching performance by the students and an endeavor of the students to pay tribute to their natural heritage.

The students of classes VIA and VIB visited the Nehru Museum and Planetarium, which was the former residence of the first Prime Minister of India- Late Jawaharlal Nehru. The children through the visit learnt about the history of the Independence Movement of India, got an insight of Pandit Jawaharlal’s Nehru’s life through various photographs showing different phases of his life. Besides the displays, the architecture of the colonial building structure was also worth watching. The high ceilings, spacious verandas, teak panels and well-maintained gardens took them to the pre independent India. This building served as the official residence of the Commander-in-Chief of the British forces in India where Nehru lived for 16 years. The children also visited Nehru's bedroom, drawing room and study which are preserved exactly as they were at the time of Nehru's death. Peace Day to commemorate Mahatma Gandhi GDSPS celebrated Gandhi Jayanti as Peace One Day Programme, as part of Tony Blair’s Face to Faith Programme on 1st October, 2014to sensitize students about the importance of peace in one’s life and the world around them. The day was celebrated to make the stu dents conscious of values like compassion, kindness, and service to themselves, others, and the environment. The programme commenced with an invocation to the Almighty to pray for global peace. Talks on the principles of Mahatma Gandhi and his followers like Martin Luther King and Anna Hazarewere presented by the students. The school choir spread the message of Peace and Harmony through their rendition of some beautiful songs. Students were administered the Peace Pledge to follow the path of righteousness, honesty and non-violence in life. School conducted an inter-house declamation competition on the topic “Rivers as cradle civilization” on 1 st September 2014.The topic was selected to make the  students realize the importance that the rivers hold in the lives of living beings.  The cradle of civilization is a term referring to locations identified as the sites of the emergence of civilization. Rivers gave birth to human civilizations in al l continents . As a result of the multiple and exponentially growing human activities, most world rivers are now being impacted, including by long range atmospheric transport of pollutants. These changes can be regarded as a global water quality issue . Students discussed the four civilizations – Mesopotamia( Egypt), the Indus Valley and the Yellow River Valley civilizations in detail.They highlighted the role played by these rivers in the settlement and development of these civilizations. Students of GD SalwanPublc School presented a musical play on the life of Buddha; highlighting – the evolution of his thoughts and his triumphs. It was a mesmerizing performance by the students and a moment of pride for the parents ,teachers and staff to see the initiative taken by the students in displaying their acting and dancing skills. It not only  showcase the beautiful dances along with an enthralling  light and music show but also the values of love and peace for humanity promoted by Buddha. This activity was an endeavor of the students to pay tribute to their rich cultural heritage .

Young Artists : Painting Competition To inspire the young minds an inter class on the spot painting competition was organized on the theme festivals for the students of class VI-VIII. Although the month engulfed the students with their Summative I Exam but after that their stress was lighten up with the creative activity of on the spot painting competition. The students enjoyed the activity and presented their artistic ideas and valued their rich heritage and culture.

Celebration of Peace day A peace assembly was  organised by CNDP on 08.08.13 in commemoration of Hiroshima day at G.D. Salwan School. It was a day of intellectual exchange and moral re-thinking on the issue of nuclear disarmament on the date Hiroshima was bombed years ago though it’s ill-effects are suffered by the present generation even now. Eight schools from across the city participated in this event and presented their self- composed poems, songs, skits and paintings . Renowned personalities like Ms. Kamla bhasin , a social scientist Prof. Achin Vinaik , founding active member of CNDP Dr. Tomoko Kikuchi , author of ‘ neerav sandhya ka desh, sakura ka desh enlightened the audience with their knowledge and opinions on the issue of nuclear disarmament. The day ended where the Creativity of the children was highly appreciated by the guests and the message of world peace was promoted .

Munshi Premchand Diwas: Linking With the Past Students of our School were exposed to the finest expressions in the Hindi literature on the occasion of Munshi Premchand Diwas on 31st July, 2013. The event aimed to make the students aware about the rich and diverse literary heritage that India possesses through the famous works of Munshi Premchand. The stage also served as a platform for the students who presented their creativity through Hasya Rasa Kavitas through an Inter-House Kavi Sammelan, (classes VI to X). The programme was a grand success in the way that the students enjoyed and appreciated and learnt the traditional values of sharing , compassion & empathy through the stories, novels of  Munshi Premchand ji.
