Reawakening divinity through Buddha

Students of GD SalwanPublc School presented a musical play on the life of Buddha; highlighting – the evolution of his thoughts and his triumphs. It was a mesmerizing performance by the students and a moment of pride for the parents ,teachers and staff to see the initiative taken by the students in displaying their acting and dancing skills. It not only  showcase the beautiful dances along with an enthralling  light and music show but also the values of love and peace for humanity promoted by Buddha. This activity was an endeavor of the students to pay tribute to their rich cultural heritage .

Young Artists : Painting Competition To inspire the young minds an inter class on the spot painting competition was organized on the theme festivals for the students of class VI-VIII. Although the month engulfed the students with their Summative I Exam but after that their stress was lighten up with the creative activity of on the spot painting competition. The students enjoyed the activity and presented their artistic ideas and valued their rich heritage and culture.

Celebration of Peace day

Celebration of Peace day A peace assembly was  organised by CNDP on 08.08.13 in commemoration of Hiroshima day at G.D. Salwan School. It was a day of intellectual exchange and moral re-thinking on the issue of nuclear disarmament on the date Hiroshima was bombed years ago though it’s ill-effects are suffered by the present generation even now. Eight schools from across the city participated in this event and presented their self- composed poems, songs, skits and paintings . Renowned personalities like Ms. Kamla bhasin , a social scientist Prof. Achin Vinaik , founding active member of CNDP Dr. Tomoko Kikuchi , author of ‘ neerav sandhya ka desh, sakura ka desh enlightened the audience with their knowledge and opinions on the issue of nuclear disarmament. The day ended where the Creativity of the children was highly appreciated by the guests and the message of world peace was promoted .

Munshi Premchand Diwas: Linking With the Past Students of our School were exposed to the finest expressions in the Hindi literature on the occasion of Munshi Premchand Diwas on 31st July, 2013. The event aimed to make the students aware about the rich and diverse literary heritage that India possesses through the famous works of Munshi Premchand. The stage also served as a platform for the students who presented their creativity through Hasya Rasa Kavitas through an Inter-House Kavi Sammelan, (classes VI to X). The programme was a grand success in the way that the students enjoyed and appreciated and learnt the traditional values of sharing , compassion & empathy through the stories, novels of  Munshi Premchand ji.

Baolis : The Lifeline of Delhi

A symposium was conducted on 15/5/2013 at  Amphitheatre in the school to generate   awareness among the students about the ancient hydraulic structures - The Baolis in Delhi.   The students were divided into 4 House wise groups with two students each-Achal, Ambar, Anal and Avni; where the students contributed by voicing their research work in the discussion that took place.  Through this activity the  message of Heritage  Conservation was spread to the  students and the students learnt the ways through which the Baolis can be conserved.

G.D. Salwan public school organised a one day heritage mela entitled ‘ JASHN-E- DHAROHAR’ – PRAKRITI KE RANG , KALA KE SANG ON 01.12.12 at BHULI BHATIYARI KA MAHAL, the monument that has been officially adopted by the school from the state archaeology department with the aim of improving it’s dilapidated condition and restore its lost glory and grandeur. G.D. salwan is the first school in Delhi to have undertaken such an initiative.  The fete was inaugurated by the chief guest of the day Mrs. Nishi tripathi. What followed was a beautiful narration of the interesting history of the monument as the guests walked their way from the main entrance till their seating positions. Exploring The Old Fort through a Heritage Walk After going through the hurly-burly of New Delhi ’s busy roads, one longs for spending some time in a quiet and serene place. What does one do in such a situation? Head for a place out of Delhi for a change? Not quite. For there are places in Delhi , where once you enter, you will forget the noise and activity of the busy roads. One such place is Old Fort, also known as Purana Qila. My experience with the 75 Heritage walk enthusiasts  to the Old Fort  was overwhelmingly positive. The Heritage Club of GD SALWAN PUBLIC SCHOOL has taken the responsibility of sensitizing the young generation about their rich cultural heritage and how to protect it . The visit to the Old Fort , which was an Indian Express initiative was one such step towards our aim . One of the striking features of the Old Fort is the scenery inside. Salwan public school organized a yet another endeavor by SPIC MACAY to showcase a beautiful facet of Indian culture, as part of our school’s annual event- VIRASAT. Mr Chinivas Mahato, a senior dancer of Bengal was our guest of honour.
