CELEBRATING OUR HEROES : LASTING GRATITUDE FOR OUR VETERANS


This Independence Day, we decided to do more than sing the praises of the bravery and patriotism that our freedom fighters and veterans have embodied in the past. We took this opportunity to re-evaluate how we are treating our veterans in the present and invited a veteran of 1965 and 71 war and a daughter of a Gandhian follower who is busy in spreading the message of charkha in her Gandhi Ashram. Caring for our veterans is the duty of a grateful nation. The school tried to live up to this duty.

Remembering took place in many forms: Patriotic song ,patriotic dance, Flag hoisting ceremony, poetry, private reflection, Questionnaire session with students and shared memories from the Veteran COL SEGONE . The school took this initiative to remember these people, along with the Veteran .

GOSPEL OF CHARKHA : WEAVING THE THREADS OF INDEPENDENCE


Dr Sita Bimbra the Gandhian speaker gave the Message Of The Charkha. She explained the history and the Gandhian concept of the charkha, a symbol of self-entrepreneurship, which alone can help the nation protect its bio-diversity and provide sustenance to the poorest of the poor.

Today, when everything is creating disillusionment, people are being drawn to violence. Only Gandhian thoughts can equip the present and the future generations to deal with it without committing violence on themselves.

In the end Dr Bimbra gave Charkha Tips on How to Spin Cotton on Mahatma Gandhi’s Spinning Wheel. The school proposes to introduce spinning classes in the SUPW period.

In the end as rightly said by Dr Abdul Kalam “We will be remembered only if we give to our younger generation a prosperous and safe India, resulting out of economic prosperity coupled with civilizational heritage”.
By taking the above mentioned steps within the curriculum the school hopes to fulfill his dream through the students.

The students were made aware of the meaning of heritage and its various types. They were asked some general questions on what they know about the heritage of India. The students were also asked to share their the purpose and the objective of joining the Heritage Club. They were then asked to make an Ad on how they can conserve the Natural Heritage. Cherishing India’s freedom

Cherishing India’s freedom August 15, 1947  is the day engraved in gold in the history of India. It is the day when India attained its freedom from the clutches of a long slavery of over 200 years of the British Rule. It was a long and hard struggle in which many freedom fighters and great men laid their lives for our beloved motherland. To celebrate the 71st Independence Day and 75years of Quit India, the students of  Gyan Devi Salwan Public School celebrated the month of August as the Social Science Month. A plethora of activities were planned to celebrate our Independence, Our Heritage, Our beautiful Culture. Three Intra Class Activities were conducted from Classes VI-XI. The students were shown a video on how our constitution was drafted and framed, the purpose of the preamble was explained and the students were asked to learn the preamble along with the guiding values, a short quiz was also conducted after the discussion. Students sense of   Belonging  towards the Adopted  Monument               I student of class VIII-A of g.d.Salwan Public School visited Bhooli Bhatiyari Ka Mahal from school with my class coordinator and classmates. It is a Monument built in 14th century to thank the lady named Bhatiyari who helped Firoz Shah Tuglaq when he lost his way while hunting. Our school  plans to adopt this monument. When we went there we were shocked to see  its condition , our expectations were shattered. The present condition is only because of human activities . But I have already developed  a kind of belongingness towards this heritage site. I can visualize the picture in  my mind about how beautiful it must be in the 14 th century. But  today it is in a bad shape. This shows our lack of care towards this  monument . We think that it is our history, our past  but  it’s our duty to protect this heritage.
